According to Leica Rumors, Leica's upcoming M EV1 camera is essentially a Leica Q camera with an M-mount. Its design will be closer to the Leica O series than the classic Leica M rangefinder.

Recent reports indicate that the MEV1 is 45 grams lighter than the M11. The newly added FN button (viewfinder selector lever) has dual functions: focus peaking on/off and focus magnification on/off (customizable). Furthermore, the Leica M EV1 will use the same BP-SCL7 battery as the M11. After three generations of Leica Q series cameras, Leica has accumulated considerable experience with electronic viewfinders for compact full-frame cameras. Abandoning the traditional rangefinder viewfinder in the M series is a bold move for Leica. The Leica M series' embrace of electronic viewfinders will also allow for greater flexibility in future lens design, such as ultra-wide-angle lenses and minimum focusing distances. For those accustomed to rangefinder optics, the MEV1 is a great way to experience the future of Leica. The Leica M EV1 will undoubtedly be a milestone product in Leica's history.
