According to Sony Alpha Rumors, the Sony A7M5 will feature the same 4-axis, multi-angle flip screen design as the A7R5. Additionally, it will be equipped with a 33-megapixel image sensor, though it's unclear whether this sensor is the same as the A7M4. Confirmed Sony A7M5 information:
Release date: October/November
4-axis, multi-angle flip screen
AI chip
In a worst-case scenario, if the Sony A7M5's "new" sensor is actually just a slightly improved A7M4 sensor, and Sony believes it can release a camera in 2025 that still features 4K video cropping and expects users to be impressed simply by the addition of a new AI chip, then Sony would be gravely mistaken.
Competitors like the Nikon ZR, Panasonic LUMIX S1M2, and Canon EOS C50 have proven that the days of deliberately limiting the performance of mid-range full-frame cameras are over. Keep in mind that the A7M5 will likely be on the market for the next four years. With specs like these, it'll look outdated from day one.
Moving to the bright side, if the new Sony A7M5 had a 33-megapixel partially stacked sensor (or any other next-generation sensor), offered uncropped 4K video, and incorporated a new AI chip, it would easily be the winner.
