The new ZV-E10II will be released on July 10, along with a new kit lens, the 16-50mm F/3.5-5.6 OSS II.
I discussed my fantasy of the Sony ZV-E10II in a blog a long time ago, and it seems that not all the features I hoped the Sony ZV-E10II would have have been realized. Anyway, let's take a look at the confirmed Sony ZV-E10II specs.
The Sony ZV-E10II will be equipped with a 26MP sensor, the same as the A6700. This is the easiest to speculate and it is not surprising to anyone. After all, when the Sony ZV-E10 was launched, it used the same sensor as the A6400, so it is expected that the ZV-E10II will use the same sensor as the A6700. This sensor needs no introduction, the IQ is very good, but will the Sony ZV-E10II get the same IQ as the A6700? Let's continue to read on.
Once again, what happened to the Panasonic Lumix S9 happened again, there is no mechanical shutter. The lack of a mechanical shutter is definitely something to be aware of. We will have to wait for the media to test the Sony ZV-E10II, to know whether rolling shutter will become a problem.
For such a compact camera, it is understandable that there is no IBIS. IBIS is relatively rare for a vlog camera, which may rely more on the lens stabilization system to maintain image stability when taking pictures.
The external output of the ZV-E10 is 4k 4:2:2 8-bits. This time Sony may bring the 4k 4:2:2 10-bits of the ZV-E1 to the ZV-E10II. This is a good thing for video content creators. 10-bit provides more space for post-processing.
I think for a vlogging camera, they'll be mounted on a gimbal most of the time,Therefore, the improved holding comfort brought by the grip may not be the main goal of Sony ZV-E10II. A larger grip can be used to mount a larger battery, which is great for any camera.
The built-in microphone of the ZV-E10 is not very good, so Sony plans to install the microphone of the zv-e1 on the ZV-E10II. If recording Vlog outdoors, I think most content creators who require sound quality will buy an additional microphone kit instead of using the built-in microphone. However, it is always good to upgrade. Maybe one day content creators will encounter a situation where they need to record but don’t have a microphone. At this time, this upgraded microphone can provide usable audio.
According to sonyalpharumors, the ZV-E10II will cost slightly over $1,000.
No doubt most potential buyers will hesitate when they find out there is no mechanical shutter and IBIS. This is interesting because the ZV-E10 had a mechanical shutter, but Sony removed it in the ZV-E10II. From the current market, the Sony A6400 and ZV-E10 are twins, and although the A6400 has evf and better controls, the IQ and videos shot by these twins are almost the same as long as you can set up the ZV-E10 correctly.
I guess this is the reason why the ZV-E10II removed the mechanical shutter and continued to choose not to use IBIS. Sony needs to differentiate the ZV-E series from the A series. Can't let these twins be too similar.
