According to rumors, Fujifilm will launch three new cameras in 2024, among which the Fujifilm X100VI has become a reality. There are currently rumors that GFX 100S II will replace GFX 100S and become the new GFX model.

However, not everyone is a fan of fixed lens or medium format. What many enthusiasts care about is another rumored APS-C camera-Fujifilm X-Pro4.

Why are people so looking forward to the Fujifilm X-Pro4?

The Fujifilm X-Pro3 is a flawed camera, and it shows in its sales. But it is precisely because the Fujifilm X-Pro3 is a flawed and regrettable camera that people who really like it are looking forward to a Fujifilm X-Pro4 with an upgrade.

There are many reasons to like the Fujifilm X-Pro3, here’s some:

Build Quality: The X-Pro3 features a durable construction with a magnesium alloy body that is resistant to dust, moisture, and low temperatures, making it suitable for various shooting conditions.

Unique Design: Its unique design includes a hidden LCD screen at the back, which can be folded inward to encourage photographers to focus more on the shooting experience rather than constantly reviewing images.

Image Quality: Utilizing Fujifilm's renowned X-Trans CMOS sensor and X-Processor 4, the X-Pro3 delivers excellent image quality with vibrant colors, good dynamic range, and impressive low-light performance.

Film Simulation Modes: Fujifilm is known for its excellent film simulation modes, and the X-Pro3 offers various modes like Classic Chrome, Acros, and Velvia, allowing photographers to achieve distinct looks without extensive post-processing.

Hybrid Viewfinder: The hybrid optical/electronic viewfinder provides versatility, allowing you to switch between an optical view for a more traditional shooting experience or an electronic view for precise composition and exposure preview.

What we expect to see on Fujifilm X-Pro4

40mp X-Trans V sensor

Fujifilm’s recent products, whether mirrorless cameras or lenses, are trying their best to cover this 40mp X-Trans V sensor. Therefore, some rumors speculate that if Fujifilm X-Pro4 is released, it will also be equipped with this 40mp X-Trans V sensor. With this sensor, both video capabilities and secondary composition of photos will be further improved.

While this is a great idea, I don't think it will actually happen. The reason is simple - the Fujifilm X-Pro4 simply isn't such a high-definition machine. From the beginning, Fujifilm has clearly positioned the X-Pro series as a compact, interchangeable lens, rangefinder retro camera. The Fujifilm X-Pro is positioned similar to the Leica Q series, more like an advanced point-and-shoot camera than a performance monster. If there is a new Fujifilm camera equipped with a 40mp X-Trans V sensor, I believe it will be the Fujifilm X-T50, not the Fujifilm X-Pro4.

Improve sub-monitor issues

One of the reasons why many photography enthusiasts like Fujifilm X-Pro3 is its electronic ink sub-monitor. However, this e-ink sub-monitor is quite unreliable. Many Fujifilm X-Pro3 users said that the eInk Fujifilm X Pro 3 sub-monitor becomes faulty and stops working after a while. Some users said that the problem with the sub-monitor is caused by a defective wiring structure in the camera and cannot be solved through firmware updates.

We hope to continue to see this rechargeable sub-ink secondary screen on the Fujifilm X-Pro4, but if it appears, it must be durable and reliable enough.

Hybrid Viewfinder ovf+evf

You can see OVF less and less on non-Fuji cameras. The optical viewfinder is very reminiscent of the good old days of film, and it's one of Fujifilm's core selling points. Therefore I hope to continue to see the combination of ovf+evf on Fujifilm X-Pro4.

New Camera Will Have IBIS

For an APS-C camera, IBIS will completely improve video capabilities, or long-exposure photography. The Fujifilm X-Pro 4 will revolutionize the compact camera market if it has reliable IBIS. The Fujifilm X-Pro 3 has fully usable video capabilities, but in low-light situations, due to the size of the APS-C sensor, you can't get the low noise and shadow detail of a full-frame sensor. Therefore, I hope to see IBIS on Fujifilm X-Pro 4. With IBIS, I can get more creative photography possibilities by matching the shutter speed.

Improve Focusing Ability

Fujifilm X-Pro 3 has good multi-point focusing, but the AF performance is not very sufficient  today. Especially when capturing sports scenes, Fujifilm X-Pro 3 will not bring a very good experience. But would you really want to use the Fujifilm X-Pro 4 for sports photography or wildlife photography? Will There Be A Fujifilm X-Pro4 in 2024?

At the end of last year, there were rumors that the Fujifilm X100V would have a successor model released in the spring of 2024. In fact, this fixed-lens Fujifilm X100VI shocked the mirrorless camera market after it was launched. This shows that the rumors are not completely false, and now it seems that there are two voices on the Internet that sound quite certain. Rumor 1: Fujifilm feels that Fujifilm X-Pro3 failed to achieve the expected sales results, and there may no longer be Fujifilm X-Pro4 in the future. Rumor 2: Fujifilm X-Pro4 or Fujifilm X-T50 will be the new Fuji camera in 2024.

According to Fujirumors, it is very likely that Fujifilm X-Pro4 will not be launched in the next few years, which makes us have to think about the possibility of Fujifilm X-T50. Judging from the current news, the Fujifilm X-T50 is more likely to be launched in 2024.

Conclusion

Whether or not the Fujifilm X-Pro4 turns out to be what we predicted, we're hoping for a new camera that's interesting enough. After all, Fujifilm X-Pro3 still brought us a lot of fun despite its various shortcomings, and I hope Fujifilm X-Pro4 can continue this fun, if it does exist.
