Nikon's financial results fall short of expectations

Performance is lower than expected! Nikon announced that due to investment changes of its main precision equipment customers and the delayed recovery of semiconductor market conditions, the future business plan of its precision equipment division has been adjusted, and a total of 14.2 billion yen (about 724 million yuan) of one-time expenses have been confirmed.

Under the influence of this adjustment and the lower-than-expected sales performance of imaging products and digital manufacturing business, Nikon adjusted its financial forecast for the 2024 fiscal year ending March 31, 2025. The specific changes are as follows:

Operating income: 720 billion yen -> 715 billion yen, down 0.7%;

Operating profit: 19 billion yen -> 2.5 billion yen, down 86.8%;

Pre-tax profit: 22 billion yen -> 4.5 billion yen, down 79.5%.

In contrast, Canon Group has just released its first quarter financial report for 2025, with a sharp increase in net profit to 20.5%, a high double-digit growth. Canon's imaging business revenue increased significantly by 20.8% year-on-year, with first-quarter imaging business revenue of 212.1 billion yen, mainly due to strong sales and market demand for EOSR5 MarkII.
