On October 21st, Ricoh announced that it is developing two models: a GRIV Monochrome monochrome version and a GR IV HDF (Highlight Diffusion Filter) version. The HDF version was already mentioned in the GR IV development preview in May of this year, and the GR II and GR IIx also previously released HDF derivatives. However, this is the first time the GR series has introduced a pure monochrome model, a move Ricoh describes as "achieving the ultimate expression of black and white photography."

Compared to the standard version, the GR IV Monochrome version differs only in the image sensor and exterior design details. Other features, including controls, lens, battery, and storage, are identical to the standard version. The Ricoh GRIV Monochrome camera is reportedly slated for release in spring 2026.

Based on the camera specifications disclosed by Ricoh, the GR IV Monochrome is likely equipped with the same 25.74-megapixel APS-C monochrome image sensor as the Pentax K-3 Mark I Monochrome.
