On January 15th, Ricoh proudly announced the GR IV Monochrome black and white camera. Based on the GR IV, this model features an APS-C format monochrome image sensor (approximately 25.74 million effective pixels). The development of this model was announced in October 2025, and the release plan has now been officially confirmed. The Ricoh GR IV Monochrome camera will be priced at $2100 and will be available in mid-February.
This is Ricoh's second dedicated black and white model, following the Pentax PENTAX K-3 Mark Monochrome digital SLR camera released in April 2023. That SLR also uses an APS-C format image sensor with approximately 25.73 million effective pixels.
By removing the color filter and low-pass filter and using a dedicated monochrome image sensor, it is possible to achieve sharper, more nuanced black and white images compared to black and white images converted from a color sensor.
